Creating tight rounded curves with box balls can bring a contemporary feel to your garden. Clipping ever green trees and shrubs has been carried out since Roman times. The process should not be rushed and you need to constantly stand back to check your cutting lines. If you are not confident you can create circle templates from old coat hangers. It is important not to carry on cutting too far into winter as new young growth can get frosted. Having the correct and sharp tools is also important as it makes work easier and ensures a clean cut (reducing risk of infection). I have recently started using secateurs and shears from Niwaki and i have been and continue to be impressed, they are genuinely a joy to work with.
